This report by one of the programme co-leads, Simon Stokes, is a personal reflection on the Revitalise Te Taiao programme’s achievements. The report is based on what Simon observed, heard, and read.
The report describes how the Revitalise Te Taiao programme was organised and provides evidence of the extent that the programme achieved its five key outcomes:
- Increased recognition by agribusinesses, research organisations, and government agencies of the role of mātauranga and kaitiakitanga, in the context of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, in revitalising te taiao.
- Increased confidence of agribusinesses and land stewards to meet environmental regulation and National Environmental Standards (NES) from the inclusion of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te ao Māori and tangata whenua.
- More agribusinesses are taking te taiao framed approaches to improve and scale land management, value chains, and new product opportunities.
- More communities and agribusinesses are supported and able to undertake enduring changes to land use, management, value chains, and market opportunities that revitalise te taiao.
- Increased sense of collective responsibility for te taiao by agribusinesses, communities, and government agencies, based on connection to place
